Swedish developer Atrium Ljungberg plans to build the world’s largest wooden city in Sickla, a former industrial quarter in southern Stockholm. Set on 250,000 square metres, ‘Stockholm Wood City’, as it’s called, will have 2,000 homes, 7,000 office spaces, shops and restaurants.

A brainchild of Danish studio Henning Larsen and Swedish firm White Arkitekter, the development will be the world’s largest wooden city, according to Atrium Ljungberg. Says Annica Anas, CEO of Atrium Ljungberg, “We are proud to introduce Stockholm Wood City. This is not only an important step for us as a company, but a historic milestone for Swedish innovation capability.” She further adds, “Stockholm Wood City manifests our future. From tenants, there is a strong demand for innovative, sustainable solutions – a demand that we meet with this initiative.”

The developer, who has been developing Sickla for 20 years now, aims to break ground with the Wooden City in 2025 with the first buildings finished in 2027.
