Sobha Siniya Island has broken ground on Anantara Siniya Island Resort and Anantara Residences Sobha Siniya Island, advancing the next phase of the 23 million sq ft waterfront masterplan in Umm Al Quwain.
The ceremony was attended by H.H. Sheikh Rashid bin Saud bin Rashid Al Mualla, Crown Prince of Umm Al Quwain, alongside senior representatives from Sobha Group, Minor International and the emirate.
Scheduled to open in 2030, the development will comprise 125 hotel keys and 125 Anantara-branded residences, bringing the Anantara Hotels & Resorts brand to Umm Al Quwain for the first time.
The project follows a strategic partnership between Sobha Siniya Island and Minor Hotels through Sobha Al Siniya FZC, the joint venture between Sobha Realty and Umm Al Quwain Properties.
The development will combine hospitality and branded residential components within the broader Sobha Siniya Island masterplan.
Anantara Siniya Island Resort is being designed around the island’s natural setting, including its mangroves, beaches, wildlife and marine environment.
Francis Alfred, Managing Director of Sobha Siniya Island, said the project is intended to complement the island’s natural character while supporting the destination’s wider residential and hospitality vision.
William Heinecke, Founder and Chairman of Minor International, said Siniya Island’s location and natural assets made it a strong addition to the group’s UAE portfolio.
Sobha Siniya Island spans approximately 23 million sq ft and is being developed as a low-density waterfront destination comprising apartments, villas, resorts, leisure facilities and landscaped open spaces.
More than 60% of the masterplan is allocated to water features, open spaces and greenery, according to the developer.
Located off the coast of Umm Al Quwain, the island is connected to the mainland by a bridge stretching approximately 1.7 kilometres and sits around 50 minutes from Dubai.
The destination also includes environmentally and historically significant areas, including mangroves, beaches, archaeological sites and a sixth-century monastery.
The Anantara project adds a new branded hospitality and residential component to Umm Al Quwain’s development pipeline as the emirate looks to expand its tourism and real estate sectors.
The agreement also extends Anantara’s UAE footprint beyond its existing properties in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Ras Al Khaimah, alongside its planned opening in Sharjah.
For Sobha Siniya Island, the groundbreaking marks another step in transforming the island into an integrated coastal destination combining residential, hospitality, leisure and nature-led development.
