Six Flags Qiddiya City Opens, Marking A New Era For Saudi Mega-Builds

For years, Six Flags Qiddiya City lived as a vision on screens and masterplans. Now it is a working reality. The park is the first Six Flags destination in the Kingdom and a flagship asset within Qiddiya City, the entertainment, gaming and sports hub rising outside the capital.

At the heart of the delivery story is Qiddiya Investment Company, which awarded the main construction contract, valued at around SAR 3.75 billion, to a joint venture between Bouygues Bâtiment International and Saudi contractor Almabani General Contractors. From late 2021, that team took on a challenging plateau site and began the heavy lifting, from cut and fill to retaining structures along the edge of the escarpment.

Once the ground was prepared, the focus shifted to deep foundations, structural works and extensive infrastructure. Utilities, roads, back of house facilities and ride platforms all had to be sequenced with millimetre level coordination. The most high profile element, Falcon’s Flight, demanded cliff edge foundations, complex steel fabrication and precision installation of track sections that now form the world’s tallest, fastest and longest roller coaster.

Across the 32 hectare site, contractors and specialist suppliers installed 28 rides and attractions, themed architecture across six distinct lands, and the retail and F&B spaces that complete the guest experience. For those who have followed the project from announcement to opening, seeing trains finally crest the skyline carries a particular weight.

With Six Flags Qiddiya City now open to visitors, the project offers the industry a concrete example of how fast, how big and how coordinated Saudi entertainment construction has become, and sets a reference point for the next wave of Qiddiya City assets to follow.
