Shurooq Advances Sharjah Sustainable City with Community Facilities

The Sharjah Investment and Development Authority, Shurooq, has announced new construction and community milestones at Sharjah Sustainable City, as the emirate continues to expand its sustainable residential infrastructure.

The latest progress includes the advancement of key community facilities within the development, alongside a new education partnership that will bring an American curriculum K-12 school to the community.

The school will be developed in partnership with SANAM Group and is expected to attract investments of up to AED183 million over the coming years. The campus will accommodate approximately 2,435 students from kindergarten to Grade 12 and will be built on a 29,275-square-metre plot in the Um Fanain and Al Ruqa Al Hamra area under a 35-year agreement.

Planned facilities include modern classrooms, science and robotics laboratories, three libraries, arts studios, a black box theatre and a 500-seat multi-purpose hall. The school will also include sports and wellbeing facilities such as an indoor sports hall, football pitch, swimming pools, therapy and sensory integration rooms, counselling offices and landscaped outdoor areas.

The new education facility is expected to strengthen Sharjah Sustainable City’s position as a complete residential community, particularly for families seeking integrated, long-term living environments.

Construction is also progressing across other community assets within the development. The community mosque, spanning 15,224 square feet and designed to accommodate 650 worshippers, has reached 70 percent completion. The football field and multi-use games area courts, which include tennis, basketball and volleyball facilities, are nearing completion.

The football field measures 83 by 65 metres, while the MUGA courts cover 64 by 19 metres. A dedicated supermarket has also recently opened within the community, adding to the project’s self-sustaining lifestyle offering.

Sharjah Sustainable City is one of the emirate’s flagship residential communities and is positioned around sustainable urban living, family services and integrated amenities. According to Shurooq, the project is the first fully integrated net-zero energy community in Sharjah and includes 1,120 three, four and five-bedroom homes.

Khalid Deemas, Senior Director of Real Estate Development at Shurooq, said the progress across Sharjah Sustainable City and Ajwan Khorfakkan reflects the authority’s commitment to delivering vibrant and sustainable communities that meet the evolving needs of residents and investors.

He added that expanding community amenities and education infrastructure is central to creating destinations that offer long-term value and support Sharjah’s continued growth.

The announcement comes as demand for sustainable, family-focused residential communities continues to grow across the UAE. With education, retail, worship and sports infrastructure moving forward, Sharjah Sustainable City is strengthening its position as a model for integrated community development in the emirate.
