Inspire Integrated (Inspire) is pleased to announce its achievement of five million man-hours with zero Lost Time Injury (LTI) at Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation’s (ENEC) project - Barakah Nuclear Power Plant (BNPP). ENEC recently held a ceremony at the Butinah Tent at the plant to award Inspire’s employees for their dedication towards consistency in safety, security, and employee welfare.

Located in the Gharbiya region of Abu Dhabi, BNPP is the United Arab Emirate’s first nuclear power station and the first commercial power station in the Arab world. It consists of four nuclear reactors - two of which are operating and the others which are almost complete – and has a capacity of 5,380 MW which is intended to supply up to 25% of the UAE’s energy needs.

The site comprises more than 100 buildings including residential, offices, utility areas, and a guest house, and the services provided by Inspire include total facilities management, hard services, catering services, specialist sub-contractor management, soft services, and landscaping services.

In a quest to provide a healthy working environment for employees and safe service delivery for its clients and other stakeholders, the Inspire team is setting a benchmark for industrial safety. With a robust and transparent reporting system including near misses and a safety culture in the organisation, the zero LTI initiative is recognised by ENEC and monitored on a monthly basis through the project’s Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) key performance indicators.

“Constant efforts and contributions towards safety from every single person have culminated in this great achievement. With open communication, meticulous supervision, and management we have achieved this milestone and intend to continue the upward journey toward the health and safety of our team. We are thankful to each and every member of the site team for their contributions and efforts to ensure we have introduced and maintained the highest HSE standards at BNPP,” said Andrew Law, Executive Director, Inspire Integrated.

“It is an honour that the team at ENEC has awarded us for the achievement of five million man-hours with no injuries. The act of rewarding only motivates the team to perform better, stay vigilant and endorse safety measures among all colleagues,” added Law.

The five million man-hour milestone was accomplished through implementation of a combination of proactive factors and achievements, including:

  • Compliance and procedures:
    1. Conforming with local laws and regulations
    2. Following OSHAD protocols and guidelines
    3. ENEC and other stakeholders (Nawah, HSJV) procedure compliance
    4. Inspire Integrated HSE procedures along with SFG20 and NFPA
    5. Successfully completed Department of Energy (DOE) audit without any non-compliance

    1. Strong safety culture with management commitment and communication between all levels of employees through campaigns, training programs and meetings
    2. Zero heat stress-related cases reported for the year 2021
    3. Initiated employee culture and welfare schemes including cricket and carrom tournaments along with staff trips to EXPO 2020 and Louvre Abu Dhabi
  • Health & Safety
    1. Developed contract specific HSE KPIs that are monitored on a monthly basis - achieved all the set KPIs for 2021
    2. Safety-focused operations programs by the FM teams across the red, yellow and green zones around the plant
    3. Near miss reporting program to promote reporting of unsafe acts and conditions
    4. Robust inspection and audits allowing for zero environmental incidents on-site
    5. Achieved more than 45,000 hours of HSE training as part of the project
    6. Developed procedures for mitigating Covid-19 control including 100% vaccination
    7. Delivering more than 200,000 meals in a month to the client and other stakeholders within the project without any violations from ADAFSA and zero food safety-related cases

The Inspire team will continue to strive for zero LTI and retain the progressive HSE journey throughout the company.
