Dubai Holding, ReFarm Partner to Turn Sea Waste into Soil, with Pilot at Palm Jumeirah

Dubai Holding Community Management has signed a strategic partnership with ReFarm Global Investments to launch the Sea to Soil initiative, described as the region's first of its kind in sustainable community management and circular economy practice. The agreement was signed by Francis Giani, Chief Executive Officer of Dubai Holding Community Management, and Oliver Christof, Chief Executive Officer of ReFarm Global Investments.

The initiative introduces a model that transforms algae and organic waste into sustainable landscaping and soil enhancement solutions, creating a circular system in which waste generated within a community is repurposed and reintegrated back into the same environment.

The first pilot under the partnership has been conducted on Palm Jumeirah, where 120 kilograms of algae waste was successfully converted into 31 kilograms of nutrient-rich Re-Soil compost, to be used for landscaping and soil enhancement efforts within the community.

The partnership is positioned within Dubai's broader sustainability agenda, with DHCM describing the initiative as aligned with the UAE's Net Zero goals and the wider push toward resource recovery, circularity, and environmental regeneration in community management.

The Sea to Soil initiative also reflects a broader shift in how Dubai's community management sector is evolving. As the city's residential pipeline expands and master communities grow in scale and complexity, leading operators are moving beyond maintenance and service delivery into environmental stewardship and circular economy practice. What DHCM has launched on Palm Jumeirah is a practical demonstration of that direction, waste generated within a community, returned to that same community as a resource. It is the kind of initiative that sets a benchmark for how sustainable community management can look in one of the world's most ambitious urban environments.
